The mentor program is designed for those who think that they may like to start a colony of bees but are not sure how to start or what to do once they buy all the necessary equipment.
We will provide a colony of honeybees that are already to go and show you everything that will be needed to continue to grow the colony and keep it healthy though the year. At the end of the year (which is October for beekeepers in this area) you will receive twenty-five pounds of raw filtered honey which is equivalent of $200.00 sold at $8.00 a pound.
By participating in this program, you will learn what is needed to get started in beekeeping, how to treat mites and other parasites, checking the health and preventing swarming. We will conduct all the inspections together (if you are available at the time of the inspection) and we will provide all the needed protective equipment. This program will give you a basic understanding about beekeeping and how to get started.
